This was my first time attending Jacon and I would like to thank everyone for hosting a great con. I had a lot of fun.
I love Transformers so I really enjoyed the Dare panel. You guys did a great job! I still can’t believe I won the TF art poster.
I do, however, have a question for you. Are you telling me that the only reasons why you think Beast Wars sucks and shouldn’t be considered a true Transformer series is because they fail at fooling other animals and that the special effects aren’t very good?
I’m sorry but I kind of feel like that story you told about how you and Joey Snackpants met applies in this situation in that I you don’t know what in the world you are talking about.
Now, I don’t care if you don’t like the series or not. It’s your loss. But, at least get your facts straight.
They didn’t get the beast modes to fool anybody. The reason why they got them is to shield themselves from the high concentrations of raw energon on the planet they landed on that caused them to start shorting out. They mention it several times in the first 5 minutes of the show. It’s stated on wikipedia. It’s even used as a part of the bad guys’ scheme for one of the episodes!
Have you even seen the show? Because the way it looks, you haven’t seen any of it at all.
Whether you like it or not, it is considered a legitimate TF series. It is both a sequel and a prequel to the G1 events.
You see the bots in Beast Wars (Maximals and Predacons) are the decendants of the Autobots and Decepticons. They obtained peace between the two fractions but of course, the Preds didn’t agree with that. G1 Megatron secretly inscribes a message on a golden disk to any Decepticon decendents to go back in time and change the outcome of the war. Beast Wars Megatron finds out about the disk and goes to fullfill the plan. A Maximal exploration spaceship is sent to stop them and they end up on pre-historic Earth before the Autobots and Decepticon fight first began(though they won’t know that until season 2). Of course there is a lot more to the story (a whole lot) but basically the Maximals are trying to stop the Preds from erasing them from existance.
I like it because Beast Wars Megs is actually cunning and seems to always have an alternate plan if something doesn’t go right. He actually managed to blow up G1 Prime’s head and would have killed him if the Maximals didn’t save him.
But, anyway…
As far as graphics go, yeah, compared to now, it’s bad. But this was 1995 we’re talking about. On a tv budget and that time frame, it’s not bad.
Now, I’m a fan but even I can come up with a better argument about why someone would think the show was bad.
Beast Machines is another story. That really was bad. I’ve seen it.
