The Ballad of #BotCon continues…
I got back from Colorado late last night, and I’ve been swamped with getting things together for about a dozen projects. Plus, I have a bunch of great photos to post and (to top it all off) the A/C is broken in the house. True story. It died while we were out of town, it seems, and it is currently 88 degrees while I’m typing this. The A/C guy will be here tomorrow.
That said, I thought the whole BotCon aka BotFAIL arguments had subsided. Joey and I wrote our review. Silly BotCon kids got their panties in bunch. Traffic to my blog spiked. Zaniness ensued. It seems, though, that the issues with the review have extended to a new faction: people upset that we piss on their beloved Transformers series: Beast Wars. Take this brainchild from Twitter:

Cute. The Gobots was someone’s favorite show from my childhood, too – but that didn’t stop it from sucking. As anyone who has ever attended one of the DARE! panels can tell you, I am NOT a nostalgically blinded geek. I point out the good (and the bad) in much of G1 along with newer shows like Robots in Disguise and Animated.
Thus – you’re talking out of your ass. Douche.
Next up is just a whole new level of Interwebz fun. Someone referenced the whole thing in a webcomic. Seriously.
You should go read the whole thing on the author’s website. It’s chuckle-worthy, but he got the Grimlock bit wrong. We have hosted with Gregg Berger, the voice of Grimlock… BUT, Joey and I talked tonight and we’re not opposed to hosting an entire panel talking like Grimlock.

Also, for the record, I have blue eyes.
So why does Beast Wars suck? Great question – and one I’ll never answer on this blog. That material is reserved for DARE! The Transformers Panel Ultimate – scheduled for many quality conventions in the coming future including Gen Con, Anime Festival Orlando and (tentatively) Anime Weekend Atlanta.
So keep posting replies, arguing on forums and writing your web comics; none of that will change the fact that BotCon was a weak convention and a good trade show.

Your panel must be pretty thin if you can’t even give one reason why Beast Wars sucked without ruining the panel forever.
I’ll have you know that I’m over thirty years old. I grew up with G1. My first comic book was issue 8 of the original Marvel series. I watched Beast Wars in college. And Beast Wars is my favorite iteration of Transformers.
So, yeah, your Super Twitter Burn sure had relevance to me.

@David: The explanation of why Beast Wars (and Beast Wars II; and Beast Wars Neo) as a series fails in the realm of Transformers has nothing to do with “being watched by BABIES” as you so cleverly put it.
Again, if you’re in the neighborhood of Gen Con, AFO or AWA this year – be sure to stop by. I’ll be more than happy to explain it.

Even the infamous Raksha at least had the balls to post her batspit insanity to Usenet where it can be read and dissected for all time.
And you know what? I am 36. I grew up with G1. Beast Wars was a better show than G1 will ever be. I can’t watch G1 outside of ironically. Its god awful and ridiculous.
Beast Wars outside of some of the silly Looney Tunes stuff in season 1 had solid storytelling, characterisation, and some boss action sequences plus decent CGI for its time that still looks pretty good on an upscaled DVD player on a 1080p HDTV. (More S2-3 than 1.)

I’ve already been to Connecticon so my con deal is done for the year unless I call in sick for a day to go to Templecon in the winter. I work weekends.

Con time is my vacation. I go to avoid douchebags, not waste an hour interacting with them.

You guys have beat the “Beast Wars is good” drum so much, why justify our opinion here. We have our public forum to justify it, live… w/o editing or moderation.
I need to watch Beast Wars again, so I can have specifics to back-up my opinion. That opinion was formed nearly 10 years ago. It might have mellowed with age… if so, then I have more to argue with Tom about besides Bayformers. HA!

Joey, you really should. I would suggest Season 2. The Agenda Parts 1-3 was truly awesome. Seeing everything come full circle was the highlight of the series for me.

Yes, they were. Though let me guess… We have to see the panel to understand why they were not robots and that they were not in disguise.
Anyways, look, ask anyone who was involved in the brand back in the 90′s. Beast Wars saved the franchise. That is a fact. You should at least be grateful to the series for that… Had it completely bombed I would understand you saying it “soured” the franchise, but when it kept the franchise from going away?
Plus, hey, you would have never gotten RID without Beast Wars.

I wouldn’t be caught dead at BotCon, and I thought Beast Wars was terrible. That doesn’t make you clowns any less than embarrassing to rational people who still enjoy toys and cartoons as adults.
