So I missed posting on Saturday with the intention of posting Sunday – but Sunday was basically a shit sundae of a day, so here I am on Monday trying to catch up on everything.
Saturday was spent with my sister-in-law and her husband who came down to visit before the holiday. We got together to watch movies (we saw Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse in theaters… GO SEE IT; and we watched Teen Titans GO! to the Movies at home… also great.) We all went to dinner together. The morning before we went to the local beachside Farmer’s Market. Good times.
Then Sunday morning at 5:00 AM my wife woke up to go for a 22 mile run (she’s marathon training) and discovered a series of texts on her phone: her office had been broken into. We got dressed and drove down to the business and her bosses were already there. A couple of thieves had broken in around 2 AM and made off with thousands of dollars of computers.
Yesterday was spend doing nothing but handling the fallout of it and working to put things as close to normal as possible as quickly as possible, and it was exhausting. Police reports are filed. Insurance companies are called. Everything that CAN be done is being done – but that never helps with the feeling of violation that comes from a break in.
So last night, exhausted, I went to bed – and for the first time in three weeks skipped my daily run.
Which means I have to start all over again.
And that’s okay, because life goes on.
