Fun fact: there are boba tea places open in downtown Toronto on a Sunday night that close at 11:00 PM. Coming from a small beach town in Florida where they roll up the sidewalks at sunset, that’s pretty fucking exciting.
To be honest, my whole LIFE has been pretty fucking exciting this past year. Exhausting. Overwhelming. Intense.
When I was younger my dream in life was to find some sort of profession that would allow me to travel. I love seeing new places and doing new things, and even though I’m older now, my excitement forces my body to exceed its operation specifications for the sheer sake of enjoyment. Translation: I walked over thirteen miles of museums, malls, city streets, restaurants, and parks through Toronto yesterday – and my body ached to a new degree of pain, but my mind ignored it because of my passion for the adventure of travel.
Side note: I am out of shape again, and need to get back into running and eating better. It will lessen the pain (or so I’ve heard).
So here I am sitting in THE most hipster hotel I’ve ever stayed at (it’s called the Anndore House and my room came with its own record player and…
Let’s try that again.
So here I am sitting in THE most hipster hotel I’ve ever stayed at writing on my website so I don’t post on Facebook (a recent goal of mine) talking about all of this. This is effectively a blog post about nothing that says EVERYTHING about where I’m at right now. I created a career where I work in my hobby and I get to see the planet as a side effect.
For reference and, in true Ernie Cline fashion, here’s the list of travel so far this year.
- Portland, OR
- Los Angeles, CA
- Dallas, TX
- Tokyo, Japan
- Dallas, TX (again)
- Calgary, AB, Canada
- Warsaw, Poland
- Portland, OR (again)
- Orlando, FL
- Columbus, OH
- Los Angeles, CA (again)
- Toronto, ON, Canada
Slated for the rest of the year? Indianapolis, Boston, Toronto (again), Edmonton, and Jacksonville – and probably another jaunt to Portland.
This year will mark the most mileage of travel I’ve ever accomplished in my life. I’m tired, but still yearning for more.
