It’s been a while. I’m typing this while watching Mariah Carey singing on ABC’s New Year’s Eve special because, like everyone else who pays too much attention to pop culture, I want to see how she does compared to the diva breakdown she had last year.
There is so much I haven’t shared over the past year. There is so much I’ve wanted to share over the past year. The reality of my offline world, though, is that free time has been excruciatingly limited as of late. So many great and horrible things have transpired over the past twelve months and, unfortunately, much of it got “Facebooked” instead of being blogged in verbose detail (with my usual myriad of typos).
Social media is a double edged sword in my life. I tend to get caught up in microblogging my thoughts in
140 240 characters or falling down the rabbit hole of Facebook watching the world of others unfold in front of me.
Blogging took a backseat, and that meant less practice writing for the sake of writing – and instead my keyboard time was spent more exclusively on contracts, emails, and other work related mumbo jumbo.
Here we are now, though. So now what?
Well, we can wax philosophical about the state of the world in 2017. Politics. Ethics. Societal norms. Star Wars movies.
We can do better. Be better.
A lot of amazing things happened to and for me over the past twelve months. Years of hard work and dedication paid off in a myriad of ways. Additionally, I made a lot of missteps, mistakes, and errors in judgement here and there.
But now it’s 2018… and my goal is to be better.
In the coming months I plan to shift back to my blog away from the shorthand of social media. Don’t get me wrong: I’ll still be snapping, tweeting, and other fun forms of updating; but I spent time doing a rebuild of this website during the past few weeks, and there’s still some more “data cleanup” I need to get done here. (Updating/syncing social media data; website metadata and categories, etc.) It’s something that reflects my life: a perpetual work in progress.
So happy new year, Internet. Let’s make 2018 amazing by making sure we all work to be better.
