I first rode the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida back when the location was “The Disney-MGM Studios” in 1995 when I started working there part time. Since I had free access to the park with my employee badge, I rode most of the “cool” rides over and over when I had the chance. Only on one occasion, though, did I snag a photo of the experience. If memory serves, this photo is from 1995…
I am at the bottom left with sitting next to Carrie, my girlfriend at the time. Note the lack of seat belts in the ride making it MUCH better since you “caught air” on the drop.
Flash forward to the 21st century, and I went back with my then girlfriend/now wife Shannon. She had never ridden the Tower of Terror out of fear, and a Disney Cast Member and I convinced her to do it by offering her to go with me alone. She sat in the ONE seat that had a seat belt. Here’s the result:
Note the look of absolute fear on her face – but you ain’t seen nothing yet.
On Sunday, January 3, 2016 – fifteen years after that photo – I convinced Shannon to ride it again. My reward? One of the greatest Tower of Terror photos ever:
Here. Let me zoom that in a little for you…
Am I laughing because I am enjoying the ride – or is that an evil laugh enjoying Shannon’s reaction to being there?
I’LL LET YOU DECIDE.
Look for my next Tower of Terror update in the year 2031.
