My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I have read only three of the Temperance Brennan novels (the other two being Bones to Ashes and Break No Bones. As I’ve stated in the previous two reviews, I am a fan of the Bones television series, but the original books that the show is based on just don’t seem to appeal to me for some reason.
That said, this was probably the best of the three Temperance Brennan books I have read. The plot involves the discovery of a body (wait – I’m pretty sure all the Bones books start out that way!) that may or may not have been the victim of devil worshiping sacrifice. Local small town yokels like that answer, but Tempe sees past it and works to prove otherwise.
Clever forensic anthropological zaniness ensues.
This book gives me hope that there are other good novels that Kathy Reichs has put out; the other two I read, though, just don’t make it seem worth the time do go “digging for Bones.”
