Yeah, like BotCon’s going to let you two douches in after your behavior, not to mention the constant shit-flinging at the con’s main organizer, Pete.

@Alan: So you’re saying that BotCon restricts press credentials for those who DON’T give glowing reviews of their event?

    Interesting.

Also – I know Pete is staff, but I was under the impression that Brian Savage is in charge of the trade show.

No. But when you say things like “Oh no we were treated poorly compared to those that paid more for attending” or “BotCon, more like BotFAIL!” or “We’re going to come back again and start some shit”, it doesn’t exactly make the organizers feel welcome, now does it? Doesn’t help that you’re starting out with deliberate bias because your “Transformers Panel Ultimate” (I guess Ultimate because it’s the LAST panel any TF convention would want to book!) isn’t on the events list, poor yous.

Also, “press credentials”? What press credentials? You’re a pair of angry bloggers with an axe to grind. You’re not journalists.

Are you guys going to talk about Tansformers at your panel? if so is it anything like what is on youtube of your transformers panelfail ultimatefail? Maybe you should focus on some of the more obvious facts about transformers.

    1. Styrofoam packaging is much more better because it is SANITARY!
2.The best thing about bEAST Wars was how good it was. specially compared to any of that weaboo shit
    3. maybe talk about facts at the panel instead of your opinions stated as facts, because nobdy cares. its not a message board or twitter
    4. the wire twisty ties can scratch you and give you an infection

Maybe if you guys did something at botCON you could have some fun and learn how to have good panels.

So this is it? This is the panel you’ve bragged about so much? This is what you felt belongs alongside panels that include Bob Budiansky, Peter Cullen, Hideaki Yoke, IDW, and Hasbro?

It’s nothing but a heap of whining, ranting, posturing, and rumour-mongering. You can find the exact same drivel in any number of message board threads, minus the torment of watching you and your flabbier sidekick rock and sway and make faces and fondle your crotches constantly. Add public speaking to the long list of qualities you sorely lack.

Oh, and you’re totally going to chicken out of Botcon 2011. Even if you and Smackpants do actually show up, you’ll only get tired and leave after a couple of hours standing in line.

I wish you all the best.

Silly kids… you’re seeing YouTube shenanigans – not the panel in person.

Come to a convention and see it live.

That said, the only comment I will address made in the replies is this:

Alan Ladd: But when you say things like… “We’re going to come back again and start some shit”

Alan – quit making an ass of yourself and PLEASE refrain from putting words in my mouth. I never said, nor would I ever say, something of that manner. Read this original post again without your INTERWEBDRAMAZ goggles on and note that we’re talking about doing a follow up review because (like it or not) the first one has turned out to be VERY popular reading.

    P.S. Beast Wars still sucks.

  11. Alan Ladd
    August 25, 2010 @ 6:57 PM

Maybe you should take a few steps back and analyze your own words, Tommy boy.

“We’re even talking about spending the money on the insane top tier level tickets JUST to do a complete comparison and between how people are treated at the show when they are considered the “1337″ and how people are treated as general attendees (which we learned the hard way in Orlando.)”

Here’s a few words of note to show how instigative you’re being:
    insane top tier level tickets
    JUST to
how people are treated at the show
    the “1337″
(which we learned the hard way in Orlando.)

As someone once said… Words MEAN things. And your words are full of “we’re gonna start shit up again”.

And aside from crappy audio, I don’t see how “seeing the panel live” will make any difference. Your condescendant behavior isn’t “Youtube shenanigans”. Your complete lack of pertinent information about Transformers isn’t “Youtube shenanigans”. The plain fact that your panel has no information that can’t be found with GREAT ease online isn’t a “Youtube shenanigans”.

  12. Alan Ladd
    August 25, 2010 @ 7:01 PM

    “P.S. Beast Wars still sucks.”

Yes, we’ve been told the sum of your arguments by someone who had the misfortune of sitting through your panel.

1: Beast Wars broke from the core concept of robots in disguise, because no animal would believe the robots were other animals. Except that they did, if you’d watch the show. Tigatron constantly spent time with a real-life tiger, Cheetor had real cheetahs fooled until he started speaking Galactic Standard. Plus, if Generation 1 was so “robots in disguise”, why were there Lamborghini fire chief cars and Formula One cars driving on main streets? To say nothing of black and purple F-15 jets and giant robotic dinosaurs.
2: They “Went back to the well” by tying it back into G1. A bull argument if I ever heard one.
3: Trukk not munkey. Hah, you’re so 1996 angrish.
4: Primal had lips. Apparently Snackpants rants about this for fifteen minutes of the one-hour panel. Yikes.

  13. Pete
    August 25, 2010 @ 7:05 PM

Wait a second Tom. Are you saying for people to fully understand and appreciate your panel they actually have to see the WHOLE panel in PERSON?!? That’s just CRAZY talk…

Next you’ll be saying that to fully appreciate BotCon you have to see the WHOLE show in PERSON. Oh, wait a second. That’s what I said…

Well, I am glad you finally have realized that to get the full experience of something you have to judge it by its whole and not just by its parts.

Wait a second Tom. Are you saying for people to fully understand and appreciate your panel they actually have to see the WHOLE panel in PERSON?!? That’s just CRAZY talk…

UH!??! Oi vey, you guys don’t bother reading do you? You open the page and put what you want on the screen. Tom never said you needed to sit through the whole panel. Its a live experience… like KISS. *chuckle*

  16. David Willis
    August 25, 2010 @ 9:28 PM

So let’s see what we’ve learned:

    1) You don’t have to see BotCon to know that it sucks. You just have to see fifteen minutes of it and bail.
    2) You do have to see Transformers Panel Retardo in person before you can pass any judgment whatsoever.

But apparently we do agree on one thing… it’s that your panel really really sucks if you watch it on YouTube. I mean, just terrible. So terrible that you feel the need to apologize for it and say “dude, see it in person! It’s not that bad, really!”

The problem is, I see absolutely no evidence that sitting in the chair in that small room and getting insulted and condescended to by ignorant schmucks in person makes the experience any better. What, pray tell, are we missing? Or is that information you’ll only tell us if we come to listen to your panel or give to charity in your name?

Ooooooh, way to go Pete! Circular logic comes back to bite those two in the ass! :D

I read this and all I could keep hearing in my head is “Tell ‘Em Steve Dave!”

No, kids. YOUR logic fails. Based on the parallel you are trying to make, Mr. Snackpants and I would have had to have written our review of BotCon based solely on seeing footage and photos online.

    That’s not the same thing.

Now if you came to my panel, watched it and decided it wasn’t for you and then walked out early and wrote a review – then that would make more sense. See this as an example:
    http://pleasesavemerobots.blogspot.com/2009/10/saturday-at-supercon-tales-of-doom-tume.html

    BAZINGA!

As far as David’s reply: Dude. I honestly thought you were smarter than to grasp at the straws you reaching for with “1.” and “2.” You need to see EITHER in person to pass judgement. (See comments above.)

That said – if any of you fuckwits ever get time away from the Internet and come to one of the panels, let me know. I’ll be sure to hold a front seat for you all.

    🙂

As someone once said… Words MEAN things. And your words are full of “we’re gonna start shit up again”.

    *facepalm*

Alan, you really are a bona fide idiot. You’re trying to dissect words to look for a meaning YOU want to see.

Keep listening to the sea shell, sir. That really is the ocean you hear.

Mr. Snackpants and I are considering returning to write a companion story. BotCon was BotFAIL from the POV of a general admission attendee. Next year, we’re considering spending some crazy money for the top level ticket experience to see if the event is any better.

If it is? Then we were right in our analysis that those who spend the big money get the real show (as opposed to the off the street Joes.)

If it isn’t? Then we’re still right… because then the entire show is a failure as far as fan convention standards are concerned.

At least we’ll have some cool toys to show for it, though, right?

  20. Pete
    August 25, 2010 @ 10:15 PM

People are commenting on your video’s based on a two dimensional view, where as you contend you must be “present” to get the full effect.

I contended you must be “present” at all the events at BotCon to get the full effect.

    There is a parallel there…

Anyways, something tells me you won’t need to “hold” a front seat for us.

    Bazinga!

(I can be all super hip pop culture too! )

  21. Pete
    August 25, 2010 @ 10:21 PM

    – BotCon was BotFAIL from the POV of THESE TWO general admission attendee’S –

When you can’t speak for every single General admission attendee you need to clarify that you only speak for yourself.

Tom, you and Smackpants are either hopelessly in self-denial or woefully stupid or a lethal combination of both.

I challenge you to prove how 45 minutes of viewing your idiotic panel on Youtube is really any less than attending it in person. Are you suggesting that the content magically changes when a person is actually in the same room? Are you arguing that that’s not really you and Smackpants in the videos, cavorting and listing and braying and generally acting like a couple of special needs children who didn’t remember to take their Adderall? Or perhaps there was a much better panel going on in the same room at the very same time that nobody bothered to film?

Smackpants himself has argued numerous times that it’s not necessary to see an entire movie in order to pass judgment on it, hence it wasn’t necessary to haul his bloated ass up an escalator to attend any of the panels at Botcon before he passed judgment on it. Both of you are now hanging yourselves by claiming that your panel can only be judged when attended in person, for the duration. You are a couple of flaming hypocrites.

And your panel really is godawful. Nothing interesting, intelligent, relevant, or enjoyable. Just a couple of obnoxious, overweight fanboys trying to shove their narrow-minded opinions on people.

Botcon dodged a major bullet by rejecting you.

  23. Tom
    August 25, 2010 @ 10:23 PM

@Pete: No – the “logic” posed in *this thread* was a parallel between viewing the event/panel online as opposed to IRL. We’ve already had the discussion (and disagree) regarding time spent needed IN ATTENDANCE to draw a safe conclusion.

The last DARE! we hosted (at Gen Con) didn’t have room in the front row… or (really) any other rows for that matter.

(While acknowledgement of the awesomeness of TBBT wins you some cool points, you lose them for using the SAME reference back!)

You were not specific in your first post on the subject thus why I thought you meant seeing the whole panel.

That said, there is still a parallel. Furthermore, not to rehash the argument, you said so many times there was not much to do for the General Admission attendee. What you should have said, and what it always has been, is there was not enough stuff that was of interest to you. i.e. we needed fans bashing the Transformers franchise.

Since we see that 365 days on the internet, I am not sure we need to see that in real life. BotCon is meant to get people excited about the brand, not to point out that Cosmos is dumb or that the Allspark mass-shifted.

Richard: As opposed to Tom and Joey whose sole source of website traffic and comments is this?

Besides, who’s the bigger loser, the one who argues or the one who spends his entire time saying “Ha ha look at you people arguing lol”? You’re a self-aggrandizing hypocrite is what you are.

If it isn’t? Then we’re still right… because then the entire show is a failure as far as fan convention standards are concerned.”
This is precisely my point. One way or another, BotCon will be to you BotFAIL full of elitist bastards. There’s absolutely no fucking way you guys will be able to do a positive review, because it’ll either be “BotFAIL because we’re too out-of-fucking-shape to go anywhere” or “BotFAIL because ‘general attendance’ gets the shaft”. See where I’m going with this, or are you still admiring how epically perfect that booger you just picked out of your nose is?

I like how you single out only one tiny part of my post, Tom. Very common online tactic, selective responding. Says a great deal about you.

Sorry, but the onus is on you to provide evidence upfront that your panel is not the colossal nightmare as seen on Youtube and described by numerous firsthand sources. Telling me I have to attend some puny little Florida anime convention sometime next year is a painfully obvious cop-out.

By the way, do you honestly believe that writing “Beast Wars sucks!” in all your posts helps your case in any way? Why don’t you take a photo of yourself cupping your genitals while you’re at it? Be just as immature and ineffective.

Oh, and Richard? “HURF BURF YOU POST TOO MUCH YOU HAVE NO LIFE YOU NEED A GURLFRIEND!!!1” makes you almost as big an idiot and a hypocrite as Tom.

As opposed to all the BotCon panels, Q&As and what-have-yous you bashed WITHOUT EVEN GOING TO THEM.
You wandered around the dealer room for two hours and got Peter Cullen’s autograph. That’s IT.
That’s like me attending GenCon, hanging around the dealer room, leaving and going online to say FAIL! The Transformers Panel Failtimate (see what I did there?) sucked donkey balls, as did the con in its entirety.

Tom, do you guys go to conventions or something? I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what youve been trying to say. It seems to me that you would like to go to botcon and become the biggest transfan ever, but need to learn more about transformers before doing so. Its easy to see you too are –> noobes at transformers and dont understand even the simple concept of Beast Wars.

Would you like to become my padawan? I am the greatest transfan ever and I can teach you the ways. You are going to have to learn some humility fiorst though, and stop talking like a 19 year old on xbox live. You guys are like 40, have some respect.

Actually taking time to post on this, and not lurk. Not sure why, as the amount of internet hate from people will probably get directed at me, but eh.

Just a couple of thoughts as I read through this pile of ridiculousness.

    1) You guys are so up in arms that 2 guys didn’t like a convention, and wrote about it on the internet? I mean..really? If you enjoyed it, and hundreds of other people are enjoying it..why do you care? Instead of raging on these guys, just be on your way and don’t give them the traffic.

    2) Name calling, and dropping fat jokes make you guys seem much less mature in this whole matter. Just saying, there are much better ways to argue. I would say this to both sides, but I don’t seem to have noticed Tom and Joey slinging that much mud.

All in all, it just comes down to people’s opinion. Tom and Joey didn’t have fun, and you guys did. Why is there so much rage? How about countering their bad review with a review detailing your good experience? Just sayin.

  36. TTT
    August 30, 2010 @ 1:58 PM

    Jake Justice:

1). It isn’t that Tom & Joey “didn’t like” Botcon. It’s that their complaints are unserious and dishonest, and rather clearly motivated by petty spite because their DARE! panel was found to not have enough unique content in it to earn an official timeslot at the show.

By way of revenge for that, their chief complaints focus on absurd trivia like the number of rooms in which panels were held–totally bypassing the content and quality of those panels, which they didn’t actually see. Apparently finding themselves too tired to ride the escalator up to see other events devoted to areas of Transformers they allegedly really liked, they instead skipped everything upstairs and acted, sour-grapes style, like nothing there could have been any good any way–bringing in yet more trivia about the number of chairs in the room and the day online registration became available. They have also made very shifty and bad-faith assertions about the number of people allegedly at the event, not to mention a lot of ageist cracks about those attendees (which predates the “fat jokes” you’re complaining about by over 2 months).

They have repeatedly asserted that “there is nothing for walk-in attendees to do,” which is simply a lie, as they could have done every single thing the preregistrants could have but simply chose not to. And it is from that basis of bad faith that they then go around defaming the entire convention on both of their websites and YBMW.

2). Tom & Joey from the very, very start were not at all shy about slamming Botcon and its fans. With their hooting about “BotFAIL!” and how the only people who could possibly have had a good time either (a) didn’t know anything about what a real convention should be or (b) were rich weird elitists, they thoroughly poisoned the well.

Don’t bother asking how Professional Anime Convention Attendees who devote their entire real-time lives to this stuff can possibly judge anybody else as an “elitist.” It has been put before them several times now and they seem to lack the self-awareness necessary to answer it.

    March 30, 2011 @ 6:16 AM

So let me get this straight, Tom.
You offer your somewhat dubious “services” to Botcon. (which seems to consist of you whining about stuff you don’t like. Whoopee fucking do. I see enough of that on message boards – why the hell would you think anyone would want it in real life too? And Beast Wars? REALLY? Dude, it’s 2011. Move on already.). They decline your “offer” (such as it is).
So, being the clearly class act that you are, what do you do?
    You start badmouthing them.
Then you turn up at Botcon, already pissed because they wouldn’t hire you (hardly the right state of mind to go to a convention really, is it), proceed to have a crappy time for the few hours you actually bother staying for (you even bailed early. Your opinion is therefore even LESS valid than it already was), and then bitch endlessly and pointlessly about it for the next God knows how long.
And then, to top it all off and make yourselves look even MORE stupid, you talk about coming BACK.

I fly from the UK to go to Botcon. With international flights, hotel and preregistration, that’s certainly not cheap. Know what? I’ve always had a great time there, wherever it’s been held. I’ve never had a problem with the staff that wasn’t sorted out with VERY little trouble. I’ve been satisfied with what I’ve got for my money every time.
And you have the gall to sit there and whine about a convention you didn’t like anyway, having gotten in on a fucking press pass and paid nothing? WHAT a fucking joke.

And so now you want to come back again. Well, let me ask you this:
Why the hell would all the people who go to Botcon with the intent of enjoying themselves and DO enjoy themselves, WANT a pair like you back there? I personally can’t think of any kind of “fan” I would be hang out anywhere near LESS than the odious, opinionated fools I see writing the sort of drivel you have.

    Bottom line:
You got knocked back, so you went along determined to have a shit time, and then went home and slagged it off.
Do the rest of the fandom a favour, sunshine:
    STAY HOME.
We don’t want you there either. We’d much rather enjoy our convention without elitist, snobbish anachronisms like you cluttering up the place.
